Living to please God

“By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.”

 Hebrews 11:5 (NKJV)

One of the most interesting people in the bible is a man called Enoch.  Hebrews 11:5 tells us that he walked perfectly before God.  His life was so pure before God that God did not allow him to die.  He was taken straight into heaven alive by God.  Also, we read in Genesis 5:24 that he walked with God.

The bible says that the testimony of Enoch’s life was that he lived to please God.  Can you just imagine how God would have continued to observe the way this man lived his life from heaven.  God would have constantly seen how he dealt with his fellow men on earth, his honesty, trustworthiness, loyalty and his dedication to serving and worshiping the true and living God.  I can just imagine God saying “wow, look at how perfect this man is”.

The bible says that the eyes of the Lord run to and fro the earth looking for people whose heart is loyal to Him.  Wouldn’t it be great if God could say the same about you?

We can and should all live lives that are pleasing unto God.  This really is what we should pursue as believers on the earth today.  We can’t do anything to make God love us more because His love is unconditional towards all.  However, the way we live can either make Him pleased with us or displeased with us.

Walking in holiness and integrity pleases God.  Praising and worshiping Him is pleasing unto Him.  Serving God with a perfect heart brings Him joy.

Reflection:

What kind of testimony do you have before God?  Can people around you testify that your life pleases God and glorifies Him?  Can God say the same about you as He said about Enoch?

Impact Prayer:

1. Lord, help me to live a life that pleases You in every way.

2. Lord, give me strength to disconnect from anyone and anything that displeases You.

Impact Action:

Decide to make one change in your life that will make your life more pleasing unto God.
